Following on from the success of the two MBT Get Togethers in 2023 in the UK, and in the USA, we are delighted to announce what promises to be another wonderful
MBT Get Together in May 2025!
This event will be taking place at the stunning Parador de Alcalá de Henares in Spain,
a stunning combination of 17th Century splendor and avant-garde luxury,
located just 20 minutes from Madrid's international airport.
Why an MBT Get Together?
This is not an MBT Immersive and there will be no highly structured program or schedule.
Rather, this is all about you, the MBT readers and supporters, to be together and simply hang around and interact with other MBT fans, and Tom of course, in a fantastic location.
Parador de Alcalá de Henares will truly become your home away from home for these four glorious days. Find a quiet corner in which to get comfortable with a good book (we suggest MBT of course), go for a walk in the spacious grounds, go for a dip in one of the two swimming pools, or find and make new friends and while away the day chatting.
Tom is going to be there for three Q&A sessions a day, plus other talks scheduled throughout your stay, but the main focus of this event is getting together! Many new friends to meet!
In the birthplace of Cervantes, where every nook and cranny oozes art and culture, you will find Parador de Alcalá de Henares.
Set within a former 17th century monastery school originally ordered to be built by Cardinal Cisneros, this magnificent parador will have you feeling as if you've been transported back to a noble age of stately grace and literary genius.
Located in the city's Historic Quarter within the former San Jerónimo College, it offers the perfect combination of tradition and avant-garde. The interior décor, while modern, is tasteful, minimalist and extremely elegant.
The modern parts of the parador merge with the three 17th-Century convent-schools without losing its historical spirit whilst highlighting the spectacular Carved Garden terrace located in the cloister of the 16th-century Saint Thomas of Aquino Convent. The spa is located under the vaults of the ancient conventual church. There is also a seasonal outdoor pool and a stylish restaurant serving traditional Spanish cuisine.
Paradors have been present in Alcalá de Henares since 1930 when Hostería del Estudiante, the third establishment of the Paradors network, opened its doors. The current parador opened its doors back in 2009.
Located just 26 kilometers from the center of Madrid, and just 20 minutes drive from Madrid’s Barajas International Airport, Parador de Alcalá de Henares’ location in this World Heritage City is one of its main advantages.
The UNESCO World Heritage City of Alcalá de Henares, the City of Arts and Letters, is a standing paean to the Golden Age of Spanish Literature.
Birthplace of legendary Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes, most famous for Don Quixote; Alcalá's delightful Historic Quarter conserves a remarkable variety of grand monuments that allow visitors to reconnect with that illustrious past.
Alcalá's importance is intrinsically linked to the Complutense University, one of the world's oldest universities, which was founded here in 1293. A visit to the university's old rectory, with its grand Plateresque façade, allows one to reconnect with the city's role as a center of Spanish learning and with the countless Renaissance and Baroque writers who came to study and work in this ambiance (amongst them are Francisco de Quevedo, Lope de Vega, Calderón de la Barca, Tirso de Molina and St. John of the Cross).
Pay tribute to the city's most famous native son by visiting the Miguel de Cervantes Museum, a careful recreation of the house in which he was born, where you can learn all about this incredible writer. Later, make sure that you wander down the picturesque Calle Mayor, always full of life, and stroll around the Plaza de Cervantes, the authentic heart of the city, where you will find the Corral de Comedias.
A visit to Alcalá's Cathedral, an Isabelline Gothic wonder, is a must or view the Paraninfo Theatre, where each year the Cervantes Literature Award, the Spanish-speaking world's most important literary distinction, is presented by the King of Spain.
Strolling along the cobbled streets of the old quarter of Alcalá de Henares, you will discover the charming traces left over centuries on this university city.
One mustn’t forget, too, the many historic towers which annually host visiting storks, now a permanent feature of the landscape of Alcalá. Once you visit the Parador de Alcalá, you are sure to return, just as the storks come back to the city’s towers each year.
Other things to see and do in the town include:
Indeed, every splendid inch of Alcalá de Henares is full of art and culture!
Parador de Alcalá de Henares has over 130 fabulous bedrooms and a number of meeting spaces, but we will be taking just 70 bedrooms and two meeting rooms for our event!
While we are reserving standard rooms for this event, you may be able to upgrade to superior rooms for an additional fee upon arrival and subject to availability.
With regards to meals, one of the main feedbacks we have received in the past is that many of you simply don't need or eat three full meals a day. For this reason, we are not going to be including dinners at this MBT Get Together.
What is included is breakfast each day and three lunches (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
For dinner, you will be free to either go to one of the parador's two restaurants (at your own expense), go out and explore the many exciting dining options available within walking distance of the parador, or simply skip dinner altogether and just hang out, relax or maybe even use the spa. The choice is yours.
Complimentary tea, coffee, water, and snacks such as fresh fruit and nuts will be available throughout the day. Bottles of premium still and sparkling water along with a selection of juices, beer, wine and spirits will be available to purchase from the bar.
Dietary requirements will be catered for wherever possible and we will be asking you about this prior to the event so we can liaise with the hotel's catering team.
If you will be flying in to join us, the nearest major airport is Madrid-Barajas International airport (MAD), from which it is just a 20 minute drive to the hotel.
Round-trip transfers via air-conditioned coach will be available to and from this Airport if needed.
The coach will depart from the airport at 3.30pm on Thursday 15th May and from the parador for the trip back to the airport at 10.30am on Monday 19th May.
Please book your flights accordingly if you want to take advantage of this service.
If your flight arrives too late for the coach, you will need to make your own way to the hotel.
A taxi should cost between €20 and €40 depending on the vehicle type chosen and the number of passengers while an Uber should be between €15 and €30.
We have envisaged this MBT Get Together as an informal and unstructured event, a chance to hear Tom speak, ask him questions and relax and socialize with other MBT readers and supporters without the constraints of a rigorous program or schedule.
An opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of MBT without having to take the event too seriously!
You will be free to arrive from 3pm onwards on Thursday the 15th and settle into your chosen accommodation before joining the rest of the group in one of the hotel's meeting rooms for Tom's introduction and general socializing.
The next three days will follow an informal schedule which has yet to be finalized, but is expected to look something like this:
